Job Description
1. To manage the workflow of assigned sections / wards.
2. To make an initial assessment as per the following document
a. Initial Assessment Form
b. Progress sheet
c. Nursing Care plan & Re-assessment
3. To coordinate with Medical Coordinator/Nursing superintendent for on hand training of the Nursing staff.
4. To start immediate treatment required for the patients as per the consultants order or defined protocols.
5. To monitor patient after drug administration & evaluate drug administration by nurses.
6. To transcribe medication from the formulation defined.
7. To inform & co-ordinate the concerned consultants about patient’s condition & investigation findings.
8. To send all the investigations required along with requisition.
9. To name & sign the treatment orders with time & date.
10. To document observations & findings of assessment & reassessment in the progress note.
11. To coordinate and provide all the required assistance to the wards & OPD under him/her and take care of their requirements. (Since these people cannot leave their desks).
12. To solve the patients’ clinical related problems in coordination with relevant nursing staff. To see that no patient related issue gets aggravated and is left un-attended by the relevant nursing staff.
13. To handle the emergencies in the wards.
14. Initiate incident reporting whenever encountered.
15. To convince the patient against leaving & also inform physician of the patient’s intent in the case of DISCHARGE AGAINST MEDICAL ADVICE.
16. Fill out the discharge summary & also instruct regarding how to obtain urgent care with the contact details of the doctor & hospital.
17. To attend the rounds in the wards and ICU / Recovery Room with the surgeons, visiting consultants and Medical Director when on duty.
18. To get their instructions implemented with the help of the nursing staff and give feedback of the same to the treating doctor and the Medical Coordinator.
19. To monitor the drug schedule of each patient is maintained properly by the Nursing Staff. Also keep keen watch on the patients’ parameters who are admitted under your area of working.
20. Guide, motivate, support and continuously enhance the service levels in the wards & OPD under your command.
21. To see that the prepared protocols of the departments are executed.
22. To counsel the patients and their relatives about the procedures to be performed as per the advice by the treating consultant.
23. To see that the patients get proper information about the tests / procedures advised to them by the treating doctors.
24. To plan discharge in the re-assessment process as appropriate.
25. To explain the referred IPD case to the consultant or physician starting details of the patient’s condition.
26. To transfer the patient out to the other healthcare organization if required with proper documentation.
27. Receive training in areas where they are deficient & improve competence
28. Follow guidelines for ethical practices issues by MCI.
29. To confirm that the fitness certificate / PAC of the posted patient for surgery is obtained by the nursing staff; from the Physician / Anaesthetist in time and the respective consents are taken from the patients and/or relatives.
30. To confirm that the patients who are planned for next day surgery or procedures are prepared with all respect by the nursing staff.
31. Inform surgeon regarding patient’s condition before surgery.
32. Any other work as and when required.
